Premier League Teams Face North East

The Magpie PL ladies took on North East, who are in the race for 4th spot and played with the requisite intensity and hunger in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead through a penalty corner conversion at one point as their close midfield checking unsettled the home side.  Towards the end of the first half Port started to get their ball movement going, and Port equalised shortly through half time through some good build up play from captain Sarah Harrison and Chloe Dawes, with Brooke Appleyard providing a clinical finish in the open net.  The second half saw Port dominate, which resulted in a well-converted penalty corner to Rebecca Anderson, Leah Welstead completing a good personal game with a well-struck field goal to seal the match.

The PL League Magpie Men came into their match against North East looking to play a more consistent level of hockey after producing a mixed bag over the past month. However the trend continued for the Pies who delivered a flat display to lose 1-2. Things started brightly for the Magpies and they were able to take a 1-0 lead through Luke Larwood, who continued his good goal scoring run. From here the Magpies were unable to maintain until significant pressure on the Zulu's for long periods of time. They headed into the break at 1-1 and despite having it all to play for the home side failed to take advantage of their opportunities. Coach Mark Victory is hoping the team can again rebound strongly in another crunch match on Friday night.
