Past Players Day

On Saturday August 26th the Port Adelaide District Hockey Club hosted a special Past Players’ Day on Saturday to celebrate and recognise the 50th anniversary of its first men’s District Grade (now known as the Premier League) Premiership played against Woodville Hockey Club.

Each Port Adelaide men’s Premier League Mens player was presented with a replica of the 1967 heritage shirt, in a formal presentation by members of the 1967 team. These were then worn in the day's Premier League Men's match against Forestville Hockey Club. The shirt will now be used in future Past Players’ events.

Dennis Meredith, Port Adelaide District HC President said,

“The Club prides itself on its history, culture and success—last Saturday’s Past Players’ Day was a perfect opportunity to not only acknowledge the players of 1967 but also the 40th and 20th anniversaries of men’s Premier League premierships.

It was great to see so many past players and supporters attend the day, with the majority of the players from the 1967, 1977 and 1997 premiership teams able to be present.

The day was capped off by the Magpie Medal Count for the Best & Fairest players in all teams – conducted with a full clubhouse enjoying the great meal service from the canteen crew. The Magpie Medal winner for the men’s PL team was Scott Germein and for the women’s PL team Sarah Harrison.

The club acknowledges the support it received from both Hockey SA and Forestville Hockey Club in staging what was one of the best club days we have ever seen. For the future, the Club plans to have an annual Past Players’ Day to continue to recognise special occasions such as this.”
